Dear friend, today we are going to meditate upon Colossians 2:7: “Having been deeply rooted [in Him] and now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established in your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude.” What a blessed life it is to be built in Jesus, to be rooted in Christ. It is truly a blessed life to be hidden in Him.
But how can we be rooted in Christ? Jesus gives us the answer in Luke 6:47: “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and puts them into practice.” He continues to say that such people are like those who build their house on solid rock. Only by hearing His word and putting it into practice can we be deeply rooted in Christ. As Luke 6:48 says, when we do this, He makes us strong. Just like a house built on rock, we will not be shaken by life’s storms.
Isaiah 61:3 tells us that when we are rooted in Christ, we become “trees of righteousness.” These trees have their roots deeply planted in Christ, receiving constant nourishment from Him. As Galatians 5:22-23 says, these trees bear fruit regularly, producing the fruits of the Spirit. As we grow strong in Christ and become like these mighty trees, we provide rest and refuge to those in need around us.
First, we are rooted in Christ. Second, the Bible tells us that we are built in Christ. As Ephesians 2:20 says, “We are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.” We are deeply rooted and continually built up in Him. For this, we should be filled with gratitude, which is why Colossians 2:7 says we will be “overflowing with gratitude.” God gives us great faith in Christ, and we cannot have one foot in the world and the other in Christ. We must be rooted and built only in Him. May the Lord enable you to be deeply rooted and built up in Christ from this moment on. May He make you strong!
PRAYER:
Loving Lord, I come before You today, seeking to be deeply rooted in You. Help me to hear Your words and put them into practice so that my life will be built on the solid rock of Your truth. Strengthen me, Lord, so that I am not shaken by the storms of life. Nourish me continuously with Your presence so that I can bear the fruits of Your Spirit. Let my life be a place of refuge and rest for those in need as I grow stronger in You. Thank You for being my Cornerstone and for building me up in faith. Fill my heart with gratitude as I walk with You daily. Keep me rooted in You, Lord, and not in the ways of this world. Let Your strength flow through me always. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
