Hello, dear friend! It’s a true joy to greet you today. We are meditating on Psalm 3:3, which says, “But You, O Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the lifter of my head.” Yes, my beloved friend, the Lord Himself will be a shield around you. He will be your glory, and He will lift up your head.

We see a beautiful example of this in the life of David. When Saul sent David to face the Philistine, he offered him his sword and wrapped him in all the armour needed for war. Yet, David found he could barely move in it. He said, “I’m not used to all of this—I can’t wear it and go.” So, he set aside the heavy armour, took up his staff, and went forth to face the enemy. When he arrived at the battlefield, the Philistine appeared with his shield-bearer. Seeing David, who looked so young and unarmed, they felt offended. They asked, “Are you really coming to defeat us like this?” But David stood firm, saying, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel.” Then he proclaimed, “This day, the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.”

As the Philistine moved closer to attack, David reached into his bag, pulled out a stone, and slung it with precision at his opponent’s forehead. The stone struck deep, and the Philistine fell to the ground. As we read in I Samuel 17:50, “David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand, he struck down the Philistine and killed him.”

Dear friend, the Philistine relied on his shield-bearer for protection, but David relied on the name of the Lord as his true shield. That name was his glory, lifting up his head. He went without a spear or sword but with the strength of God, who gave him victory. Today, my beloved friend, perhaps you are preparing to face battles in this world. Maybe you’re arming yourself to face difficulties, sickness, or challenges—against difficult people, unfair accusations, or unjust situations. But, my dear friend, all you truly need is the name of the Lord. You don’t need a physical shield or a sword to protect you. The Lord’s name is all the shield you need; it will be your glory, lifting up your head.

So today, cover yourself in the name of the Lord. Let it be the seal upon your life, your family, and all you hold dear. His name will be your shield, your protection, and the one who lifts your head high. Let us receive this name of the Lord upon ourselves and our loved ones today.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord Jesus, I thank You for being my shield, my protection, and my strength. You are my glory, the One who lifts my head and fills me with hope. In every battle I face, help me to rely not on my strength, but on Your powerful name. Cover me and my family in Your love and shield us with Your power. Grant me the courage to trust You in difficult times and to see You as my only defence. Where there is injustice or accusation, please stand as my mighty shield. Let Your name be the seal upon my life and my household. Lord, I rest in Your grace, knowing You are with me, now and always. In Your holy name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
