Dear friend, today we are meditating on John 6:63. The Bible tells us, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”

This is Jesus’ teaching on “eating His flesh and drinking His blood,” a lesson that many disciples struggled to understand. In John 6:60, they said, “This is a hard teaching; who can accept it?” The meaning of “the flesh counts for nothing” is that, as human beings born into sin, we cannot attain eternal life on our own. Only through the indwelling of the Spirit can we experience true, everlasting life. This life with God extends beyond death. That’s why Romans 8:6 says, “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Only with the Spirit of God dwelling within us can we find salvation and peace in this world.

Paul also reminds us in Philippians 3:3 not to put our confidence in the flesh. Clinging to God’s word and His Spirit alone can guide us through life. As Peter declared in John 6:68, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Jesus further emphasised this truth in Matthew 4:4, saying, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

The words of the Lord Jesus are life-giving. That’s why, as we read in II Peter 1:4, “The Lord has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that through Him we may become partakers of the divine nature.” Through the word of God, we grow to become more like Him, escaping the corruption of this world. Indeed, the Lord’s word gives us life; it sanctifies us and enables us to resist the sinful desires of this world. Even today, may the Lord’s word fill you with life. May the Lord speak to you each day, granting you wisdom and insight to live your life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for giving me Your words, full of Spirit and life. Remind me daily that my flesh alone leads to nothing, but through Your Spirit, I can find life and peace. I seek Your indwelling Holy Spirit so that I can live beyond the reach of sin and experience Your everlasting love. Help me to place no confidence in myself but only in You, clinging to Your word and truth. Let Your life-giving promises transform me so that I can mature to share in Your divine nature. Keep me close to Your heart, and protect me from the corruption of this world. Guide me in Your peace, strength, and wisdom, and fill me with Your presence each day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
