Dear friend, in John 7:38, the Lord says, “Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
The Jewish people celebrated God’s provision through the “Feast of Booths” for seven days. During this time, each day the priests would carry a golden pitcher from the temple to the pool of Siloam to fill it with water. They would then return to the temple and pour this water over the altar, with the people following the priest in reverence. When all eyes were focused on the water, Jesus stood up in the temple on the final day of the feast and proclaimed, “Come to Me, the fountain of living water.” Indeed, Jesus is the true fountain of living water. The Israelites, seeking to satisfy their needs, performed many rituals yet missed Jesus. But here, Jesus extends His invitation to you and me, saying, “Come to Me, believe in Me, and rivers of living water will flow from your heart.” Let these rivers of living water flow from your heart. Come to the waters!
In this moment, Jesus echoed the words of the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 55:1 says, “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.” Jesus here offers a precious gift—the gift of living water.
What is this living water? It is the Holy Spirit. When we come to Jesus, He fills us with His Spirit abundantly and without measure. We must have a true thirst for God so that He can fill us with His living water. There are, indeed, many types of water—the water of salvation and so much more. In Matthew 5:6, the Lord says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” May the Lord fill your heart with His living water. Not only will He fill us, but He will also pour out His Spirit upon us. This is what we see in Acts 2:17, where God says, “I will pour out My Spirit on all people.” The water the Lord gives is not stagnant; it flows like a river and blesses others. This is God’s heart—to bless you with His rivers of blessings, rivers of living water.
PRAYER:
Loving Lord, I come to You with a deep thirst in my soul, longing to be filled with Your living water. Thank You, Jesus, for inviting me to come to You and receive Your Spirit without measure. Let Your Holy Spirit flow through me like rivers of life, bringing peace, strength, and joy to my heart. Fill me, Lord, with a hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. As You pour out Your Spirit upon me, let it overflow to bless those around me. Let my life reflect Your love and goodness, flowing out like a river that never runs dry. Thank You, Lord, for the precious gift of Your living water. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
