Dear friend, according to Proverbs 18:10, may the name of the Lord be upon you. The Bible says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil].”
In Jeremiah 10:6, the Word of the Lord declares, “No one is like You, Lord; You are great, and Your name is mighty in power.” To truly know the name of God, we must know God Himself. When we cry out to Him, meditate on His Word, and pray consistently before undertaking anything, we grow closer to knowing God. I’ve often been asked by sisters, "How can we draw closer to God?" My answer is always the same: “Read the Word more, dear sister.” That is the only way we can truly know God more deeply.
When you read about Hagar, Sarai's slave woman, running away from her mistress, the Lord looked upon her. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and asked, “Where are you going? Where have you come from?” She answered, “I’m running away from my mistress.” Then the angel said, “Go back to her and submit yourself to her. I will increase your descendants so much that their number will be too great to count.” The Lord even described how her son would be in the future. In that wilderness, Hagar saw the Lord. That’s why, in Genesis 16:13, she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” saying, “I have truly seen the One who looks after me.” The Lord cared deeply for Hagar and saw her misery. He appeared to her and turned her back toward His plan. If God had not appeared to Hagar, she might have returned to Egypt, her native place, and missed God’s purpose for her life. Yet God, in His mercy, revealed Himself to her and brought her closer to Him. She knew God more intimately in the wilderness and gave Him a new name: “The God who sees me.”
Yes, the name of the Lord is a strong tower. If God appeared to Hagar in her distress, He will surely appear to you as well, dear friend. In the Old Testament, the Scripture speaks of “the name of the Lord.” In the New Testament, it speaks of “the name of Jesus.” Matthew 1:23 tells us, “They shall call His name Emmanuel, which means ‘God with us.’” And Matthew 1:21 says, “You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” What a privilege it is for us to call upon the name of Jesus! Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. The Lord’s name is mighty and great in power. May the Lord lead you to run into the name of Jesus and find safety in Him.
PRAYER:
Dear loving Father, Your name is a strong tower where I can find refuge and strength. Please help me to know You more deeply by meditating on Your Word and calling upon Your name. Just as You saw Hagar in her wilderness, look upon me with favour in my struggles and guide me towards Your purpose. Reveal Yourself to me in my moments of despair, showing me that You are the God who sees. Lead me to trust in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names. Thank You for being my Emmanuel and for saving me through Your grace. Let me always run to You for safety. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
